Performers:
Viola: Stelle Gonzalez
Double Bass: Saulo Da Silva Martins
Piano: Lucian Crosby
Program Note:
This music is inspired by the dance genres of Sama and Bahr-e Tavil. Bahr-e Tavil, a unique genre of Iranian classical music, draws from Persian literature. Variations and repetitions of rhythmic figures act as rhymes in the musical language. The concept of movement and continuity should remain evident, even in slow or a-metric sections. These elements create cyclic rhythms and meters, with refrains serving as musical rhymes.
"Raz-o Niaz"
Instrumentation: Piano duo
Year of Composition: June 2024
Duration: 7 minutes 30 seconds
Premiere: Tuesday, July 2, 2024, at the Royal Northern College of Music, Carole Nash Recital Room.
Performers:
Piano I: Ameen Elbadri
Piano II: Kuba Williams
Program Note:
This music is inspired by the gousheh Rāz-o Niāz from the Homayoun dastgah. Key elements of this gousheh include its deep, philosophical atmosphere, reflecting the solitude and prayers of an individual. To maintain this consistent mysticism, the modal aspects of Iranian classical music are utilized, along with various rhythmic figures, tempos, and microtonal shifts that highlight different sections of the gousheh.

Program Note:
This music is inspired by a poem by Iranian contemporary artist M. E. Jafari (1940–2018). My interpretation reflects the poet's struggle to preserve elusive memories amid dust and instability, alongside a desire to paint in red—a symbol of stabilizing fading memories against an unstable grey wall.
